‘Sexual Harassment Grandpa’ Asks Girl for Gangbang On Subway

Just as we thought we’d seen the back of the recent spate of Ladygate scandals, news was breaking earlier this week of ‘Sexual Harassment Grandpa’ who, despite not being a lady, nevertheless managed to earn his title on some form of public transport. According to the young university student who was the target of his very offensive charm offensive, Sexual Harassment Grandpa allegedly came up to her and said:

You look ripe for gangbang. Good for gangbanging. Do you know what a gangbang is? That’s what you are, a gangbang.

A widespread atmosphere of relaxed attitudes towards sexual violence and the culture of acquiescence and silence has been reported by koreaBANG before. But the growing public distrust of allegedly incompetent police is now encouraging many victims of crime to take the law into their own hands.

The original victim of the alleged abuse put the pictures up on her blog but mainstream news media is relaying them with Sexual Harassment Grandpa’s face censored.

From Daum:

Female student made a victim of verbal sexual-abuse on subway

A female university student who was made a victim of sexual harassment on subway has posted the suspect’s uncensored picture on the net, attracting wide attention. The netizens are expressing public angor and widely circulating the picture.

‘On the 7th of May, at 1 PM I was on the subway from Sadang station, and was victimized by an old man who verbally abused me’ went the story reportedly posted by a female university student on a portal site webboard.

According to her post, the oldman continuously mumbled ‘you look ripe for gangbang. Good for gangbanging. Do you know what gangbang is? That’s what you are, a gangbang’ at her. Taken aback by this abuse and not knowing what to do, she could only look away while he continued to verbally abuse her for next 3 stops. She wrote ‘I could not do or say anything because he was an oldman and I was such a shock that I could not even dial for police.’ In a state of bewilderment she took the photo of her assailant.

Seeing this, the oldman up the ante with more abuses: ‘What, photo? Take it, you are a gangbang. I am an idiot. Take my picture. Should I take your pants off and take some pictures too?’

The student got off at Shinrim Station and immediately reported to the police. But the police responded that ‘if you had called at the spot, we could have detained the man but this is too late already. It is impossible to find [him] with pictures alone.

She wrote ‘For 8 long minutes I was subjected to torrents of abuse in front of so many people and felt incredibly humiliated. I understand ‘gangbang’ is a word for gang-raping woman. I am so paralized by the sense of indignation now. I would very much like to serve him justice.’

In the posted article she posted the suspect’s photos uncensored.

Understandably it has unleashed massive online outcry. Netizen ’1122′ wrote ‘he would understand what he had done if his daughter was on the receiving end. Must be difficult being that brainless. Crazy fuck’ while ‘Padakpadall’ wrote ‘[W]hy are there so many crazy people on subway? Gosh..’ Jo-guk, a Seoul University professor and prolific Twitter commentator wrote ‘Wow, amazingly disgusting old man, let’s catch him.’

The student posted on her Twitter account at 12:50AM of the following day: ‘Thank you very much for this. I will tweet if he gets arrested.’

Seated next to an insane person… I sometimes see crazy folks on subway and the best thing to do is to move away from them. There’s nothing you can do about these crazy people….

zze

Absolute truth: Even the worst of thugs get old. Tons of old fart thugs out there.

한나래

Am I the only one thinking about the Devil Equus and Devil Beast stories?? There are too many witch-hunt articles now… Maybe we should have more impartial and balanced view on these sort of articles…

초원의빛

Thanks to these old folks, there’s a saying that ‘you get old you go die’…

eizkw

A member of senior LPG cannister troopers?

짹짹짹

What were people around her doing, not helping her at all? Someone should have at least reported to the Subway assistance service or something, this is very disappointing.

SCH-V330

Good thing she disclosed the face!!

MovingStone

I am very sure that old guy is an alba, a core member of the ‘the Concerned Parents League.‘ Wrinkley thugs group… Previously known as ‘the Northwest Young men’s Group.‘ The same people who went around massacring people in Jaeju Island and other parts of South Korea. Once a thug always a thug…

Gsniper

Give that man a membership card for the Saenuri party, a license for ministerial duty and make him run for bi-election in Pohang.

호랭이

Can’t find him just with the picture? Whatever happen to their ability to track down all those protesters with only a few pictures?

꽃보단현찰

Why are there so many horrid old men…… Really hope he gets arrested

dream7664

Good for her, find that man and arrest him no matter what.

SIDe

There’s an trashy old man who always asks my colleague who’s just given birth ,’your tits are lactating well?’ He’s so used to sexually harassing others that he doesn’t even realize it.

유치원장ㅋ

The female student got off straight at Shinrim Station to report to the police. But the police said ‘if you called us at the spot, we would have been able to catch the guy but it’s too late now. We can’t arrest a man just on photos.’ This really blows my mind off, she has the evidence yet the refuse to act on it

절단나

Old folks nowadays are not what they used to be… They are just as brainless as the young people…. and quite a lot of crimes by seniors as well. They think being old is some kind of a title…

Danny

The victim takes the photo of the suspect to the police, yet the police cannot do anything. The victim must find the suspect herself. What a nice country~

돌쇠

She must have dressed so whoreish to have invited such comments from someone who is probably very gentle and old. Dress properly, you think he did that for no reason…

스칼라인

Too late huh… Punish the policeman who said he cannot do anything…. He just does not get it… This only goes to show how rotten the police as an organization is….. Before you arrest the old guy, arrest the police man~~!!!!

abmajo

That old fart can’t say a word to young men so only picks on weak women… If he gets gang-banged by 10 young women, you’d be dead right away.

이재광

ke ke ke ke These comments crack me up ke ke ke Guys~ even if she dressed improperly do you think it’s right to verbally abuse someone ke ke ke Why are people so obsessed with how she dressed ke ke Don’t just crap out your comment.. Um no its not, thats just you being lazy. Geez they act as if she was giving them a description of his voice, talk about unreliable cops.

I think Sexual Harassment Grandpa needs to lay off the soju. That is not how you charm the ladies.

    • Wang that!

LOL, i had the same thought and was going to post it too… but you beat me to it. ^__^

  • Jang

They can’t blame this on the Joseonjok now can they?

    • Christina

      lololololol!

I was expecting to see a comment about joseonjok too!
I haven’t been on KB very long but it seems that there is an inordinate amount of hatred amongst the locals towards the Chinese. I’m wondering if KB moderators are selecting comments for translation at random or only taking the most outrageous ones…? Hope it’s the latter, cuz that at least means not 99% of koreans share such xenophobic views.

      • James

We tend to take the most “liked” or “upvoted” comments wherever possible. Read our FAQ for more info.

If an article involves Joseonjok, there will most likely be some sort of xenophobic comments. Just as if there was a scandal/issue involving an American in the UK, you’d certainly see your fair share of “stupid Americans” comments.

We wouldn’t be representing things fairly if we chose only the most outrageous comments (just as you wouldn’t be representing Koreans fairly if you thought what netizens said represented that 99% of Koreans you mention!).

Don’t forget as well that, although Koreans will be talking about these things offline as well as online, people who actually bother to comment are by no means representative of the readership. Take koreaBANG for example, we’re read by journalists, academics, diplomats and the like but people who comment are either curious and pleasant like yourself or, sadly, completely off their tits on some sort of pill made up from crushed-up nationalists.

      • Justin_C

in terms of “faithful representativeness” of the comments being presented here, I would say about 50 most popular -50 most common. Top-comments usually mean they get lots of ‘thumbs-up’, meaning they get approved by the majority who express agreement, etc, so that shows what was most popular. Then I check what gets voted down – often quite interesting ‘voice in the wilderness’ type. and then I just go through as many pages of comments as I could do get some accurate picture so I can do justice to what is there.

In terms of xenophobia against the Chinese, hmmm, it’s there for sure. It’s kind of interesting because of the three countries in East Asia, South Korea has arguably the most politically active demos, so they are quite sensitive about the domestic issues, but when it comes to international issues, they could be quite insensitive and frankly, massively misinformed.

But if you think about South Korea is a bit of island at the moment – physically separated from China by North Korea and Japan by sea, so not a lot of opportunities for direct contact. Hopefully that will change soon :D

        • Bam Wam

          Sorry to be off topic,

But can you guys do a translation of an article pertaining to the KPOP rape scandals that are going on? I’m interested in reading how the Korean media reports it and how the “netizens” are responding to it.

          • Stories of butts

Theres some mention on allkpop.com but they never show what netizens are saying about it.

          • Bam Wam

I saw those articles, but the editors at that site seem to have just ran the Korean article through Google Translate. The comments on that site are also mind numbingly stupid with the amount of victim blaming and idol worshiping that’s going on.

          • Stories of butts

I agree, its not a very good source of material to get and the comments are what I would expect from delusional kpop fans but I havent found a lot of places to get a translated one. I would love for koreabang to translate an article on it.

  • Jang

A judge will rule that she’ll have to pay the man the maximum amount if he takes her to court because of the Korean defamation law that protects criminals where even if the victim’s story is true the victim is still guilty.

    • Bam Wam

Yeah, that and Korea is a pretty misogynist country.

    • mr. wiener

Sounds like he does this a bit though, very shameless. What happens if she gets sued , and loses, then “Pervy grandpa” pops up in a vid a month later caught in the act? To late by then I’m guessing.
If he’s smart he’ll taxi home for a while after this.

    • An anonymous boy…

Sorry, I don’t know the law in South Korea… Is there anything that says sexual harassment is against the law at all? In particular the US only has laws against workplace sexual harassment. However, some laws in some states allow professionally connected people to sue for such… There are no laws to deal with random strangers such as in this case (to my knowledge)…

I know South Korea has like a 40% workplace sexual harassment rate supposedly, but I never hear anything about anyone bringing many cases forward or any laws involved… So I was wondering if she could really even do anything if it turns out to be true?

      • 케일린

I think it is probably against the law but rape is also against the law but very rarely prosecuted here because of a “blame the victim” mentality. Like “what did you wear to make him do that?” kind of thing (which I know can happen in the US but I don’t think its as common there as in Korea).

  • 소지섭

    Wow

  • An anonymous boy…

Sounds like a witch hunt… She could of just took the photos and made up some randoms story… Crazy thing is it sounds like most of the people have already judged the dude… It’s more or less her word against his…unless that other dude in the picture overhead…

  • G London

I’m a Korean-American girl living in Daegu and I would have smacked him if he’d talked to me like that, grandpa or not.

  • lonetrey

It kinda sucks that it happens, but i’m not sure why I understand the focus of this story. It’s about the principles of flesh-searching out this old guy, right? and not about the actual sexual insults he made? I feel like something like that happens everyday, and while I don’t think she should just let it happen (I think she should’ve demonstrated what a good right hook looks like to the man’s face), I also don’t think she should make a huge deal on the internet about it.

It’s important that people reading my post do not think I am trivializing sexual harassment; what I want to get across is the fact that I’ve never seen a manhunt for a man over the fact that he said something really rude to someone before….

Also, did no one hear him? I’d probably go “Yo, what the hell?” if he was standing next to me…

    • Steven Wilson

I agree. It might not be what it appears, as was the case with “hot soup lady”
      http://www.koreabang.com/2012/videos/woman-scalds-boy-with-hot-soup-boys-mother-tries-to-sue.html

We can’t know for sure I guess based on what we have.

      • Brett Sanbon

Seems to be the case with most stories that are posted on portal sites. nature of the beast i guess. last few stories here and at chinaSMACK have left many posters desiring more information. i enjoy when people post follow-ups to these stories. “keep your ear to the ground”, as they say…

        • James

A lot of the time these stories seem to abruptly stop. For example, that poor girl who got pinned between those two cars outside a school: the trail leads to a dead end as her family, understandably, didn’t want the whole thing to be publicised and so didn’t release much information as to her whereabouts/health etc.

I think this one, the original blog post was taken down, but not before those uncensored photos could be posted around more uncontrolled portals like TodayHumor (which is where we found those).

Ask Justin — he’ll probably be able to find out what’s going on.

        • Justin_C

the police caught him…. using his t-money card… using CCTV footage, etc.

          http://media.daum.net/society/affair/newsview?newsid=20120511154121808&cateid=1010

He was on his way back from funeral and on the said subway decided to inform the girl of how wearing ‘wearing hot-pants’ equals open-invite for gang-rape.’ Apologised for the distress he may have caused. She is unsympathetic and demands justice.

          • Kai

That actually makes sense. He didn’t ask her for a gangbang, he was merely telling her how she’s asking for it by how she dresses. Pretty much getting on other people’s cases and minding other people’s business but that sort of moralizing isn’t that weird. People judge how others dress all the time. He seems like the sort of old paternalistic fart that would be really rude about it. Wonder if he has a daughter.

He looks to have a bruise on his face – maybe he’s been verbally abusing a lot of people! My friend was chased down the street by an old Korean man shouting abuse at her and then he kicked her twice. She is Western and had no idea why he did it. I think some people just get old and a go a little mad but something should be done to protect women and bring these men to justice.

  • B

I’m surprised she didn’t punch him in the face. Question though. If she had retaliated, would she have gotten in trouble for it, or would it count as self-defense?

    • Mich’insaeki

Nah, then she’d prove to the crowd on the subway that she was the vulgar tart old ‘shi said she was and get the gangbang he was begging for. Haven’t you figured this out yet? If you’re a woman in Korea, you’re wrong.

Another massive yawn. This stuff is so old hat. I used to hang out with Korean girls, can’t recall how many times some grandpa came running up to us and started berating the girl for hanging out with a kojaengi. All the usual racist vitriol. Got into a primo fight once after some dickhead walking by called the girl I was with a whore… here’s some drinking wisdom I picked up from some Korean guys I went drinking with once. “Women who wear short skirts want men to rape them.” Yes Confucius Jr…. and I’m sure you stand ready to help them with that.

    Dae-han-min-KUK. Lmao.
